The Institute of Machine Woodworking Technology to the Machine Woodworking Association
IMWT – MWA
The Association is a professional organisation with members from within the machine woodworking industry, woodworking machine manufacture and supply and respective training organisations.
The Institute of Machine Woodworking Technology was founded in 1952 and from IMWT the Machine Woodworking Association, MWA, was later established.
Although with the change of name in 2010, the Machine Woodworking Association’s aims remain the same, to offer a responsible medium which, in addition to provide an association for machine woodworkers, offers the necessary status applicable to technologists in the industry.
Our aims include:
- To support and protect the status and interests of those suitably qualified persons who are engaged in the technology of woodworking by machine processes.
- To promote good practice in woodworking technology and related subjects by lectures, discussions, issuing of literature, correspondence or otherwise.
- To encourage the study of the theory and practice of woodworking technology by assisting in the development of courses and classes providing facilities for this study in colleges and training institutions.
IMWT as the Institute, is the founding organisation and the name still resonates with membership, such that the term remains and ‘Institute’ may still be used within the Association and many of our conversations.
